Veronica McLachlan

I am a photographer based in Stirling North, just outside Port Augusta. My photography grew out of the community around me: local sport, events in town, and the people and places of the upper Spencer Gulf and the Flinders. From there it has grown into business, portrait and celebration work across South Australia.

Most of what I photograph happens whether I am there or not. I stay out of the way and wait for the moment rather than arrange it. That natural, observational approach carries through everything I do, from a race day or a dance concert to a family at home or a business at work.

I have photographed community events and festivals, club and junior sport, horse racing and rodeo, theatre and music, markets, milestone birthdays and family gatherings, as well as local businesses, cafés and producers. My photographs have appeared in print — flyers, newsletters, calendars, an annual report and local history books — and online in Glam Adelaide and The South Australian Footballer.

Much of my work comes through clubs, organisations and community groups, some of them season after season. Knowing the people and the places helps. I know where the good light falls and when to be ready.

Port Augusta and the Flinders are home, but I am happy to travel. If you are planning something anywhere in South Australia, I would love to hear about it.
